Cape Crawford

Refueling at Cape Crawford and seeing that they had a caravan park for $8 PP we decided that would do for the night.

Teresa caught up with the washing and came back from the laundry with a tale about two women who were doing the same route as us. they had come through about four hours ahead of us. Teresa had said to them that we were worried about the water crossings, but they turned out to be only minimal, but these woman who were travelling on their own said that one crossing was over the landcruisers bonnet and they got scared when they when they started to loose traction, but managed to keep going and getting through.

Cape Crawfords ablution block look like they were built in the mid 60's at had never been cleaned since.

A hand full of young aboriginal children were playing outside the bar and Teresa said she heard them in the toilets, they must have stuck one of those large toilet rolls down in the toilet as they were giggling and carrying on about some thing.

Three helicopters were there to take people out to see the lost city ( tourist attraction ) and others were being used to shuffle workers out to the nearby mines and back.

After a good nights sleep we were woken to birds chirping and walking up and down the canvas roof of our camper, we Had given them some biscuits and bread at dinner time and they had not forgotten who the bird lovers were.

Back on the road we passed by several grass fires that look like they had been lit only minutes before we arrived.

we turned north on to the Stuart Highway to Katherine. At Katherine we did shopping, checked emails, then booked into a caravan for the night.

Two young backpackers from thee Netherlands, sat in the camp kitchen with us, quizzing us all night about which way they should be heading to see the sights in the area.

while I sat and waited for Teresa in the shop car park a Aboriginal male in his 50's came and asked me for money to buy food. He smelt strongly of booze as it was pension day, I told him

that I have only limited funds and I do not get any pension and that he should spend his pension more wisely and not on booze but, food also. He was was a bit shocked at my reaction, agreed with me and walked away saying sorry.

From Katherine we travelled to Daly River to catch up with my cousin and her husband.
