We arrived back in Cooktown about mid morning, determined to find out what was happening with the road closure up the Cape. we have had that much rubbish told to us as to why the road up the cape was close. At the tourist info office once again the woman could not get any answers so we decided to go to the Cooktown shire office to find out what the hell was going on a middle aged woman said she had been trying to find out but, the man that makes the decisions at the main roads department was at a meeting We kept saying how silly it all was, that one person was holding up dozens of travellers. the woman at the shire rang again and after speaking with some female at main roads, who in turn got the decision that all roads in the cape are now open. We all did a little celebration dance, both a couple of girls in the shire office and us.
We refueled the ute and set off straight away, back up the 85k to the turn off then pointed the ute to the north OFF UP To The Top OF OZ at last.
At the turn off the signs still showed all the roads close ,but we just drove straight by and kept driving.
