With All the drama of the Ferry getting us across the Jardine River we headed north towards the top. Driving in and out of a few local communities, it felt like they were checking us out instead of the other way around.
We arrived at the main town called Bamage, it had all the services there, like a very big Centre Link, Hospital, Supermarket etc. We tried to get some fresh rolls from the Bakery, but they were selling mostly pies and cakes.
About 6 k's from Bamage is Seisia, a place every one seem to mention.
Nothing at Seisia seem to live up to what we had heard about the pace it was just a boat ramp with bigger boats moored out in the bay.
We drove out to Loyalty beach which was a camp ground on a very shabby looking beach.
From Bamage we headed out to Lockerbie then on to the top of the cape. From Lockerbie (just a junction in the road) the road to the top turned into a narrow single lane track that went through very beautiful rain forest and ended at a car park (turn around point) right on the beach. From the car park its was then a walk to the very top of about 500 metres across rocky hilly outcrops. We climb our way over the rocks and past several rock piles to a plate that indicated all the Islands etc in the area.
A short walk then to the sign stating you were there at the top. On arrival at this sign two couples were there relaxing and eating sandwiches, they were from the Gold Coast and had been in the area for four days, when I asked how they got through the closed roads they said they had obtained a permit. They told us they were the first of the season to get to the top and we were the second, they also asked if we had passed a runner on the road, we had about 3 klm before the track ended. They told us he had run all the way from Canberra raising money for some mental health organisation. As we were there he appeared at the top of the rocky outcrop to which we all cheered him on to the sign post. Also three other people turned up from walking in from the beach area just prior to his arrival so we all witnessed this achievement.
We had done it got to the top, it was not that hard, no real hard 4wdriving just a lot of red dirty gravel road with lots and lots of dust, sand fly and mossie bites.
