Sri Lanka #12

With time running out and a lot more places to see north of Kandy we decided to do a day trip Sigiriya (the Lion Rock) which is a world Heritage site.
Both of the tuk tuk drivers we have been using in Kandy said it was possible to do this trip including other sites in one day.  The ex Army one said he would use the tuk tuk which would bring the cost down by 2000 rp,but, in the end we ended up going in a toyota commuter type bus with another Australian couple from Tasmania with them and us going together it did reduce the cost.
They were staying up there which is what we were going to do, but, by returning to Kandy we could go else where for the last couple of days we had left in Sri lanka.
We set off at 7am and after about a hour we stopped at a Hindi temple in Munneswaram. Just as we arrived a bus loaded with drummers arrived in the car park and we all went into the temple. The drummers were from India and gave a performance in the temple, What luck is was that they were there also as they were really good and very loud, I noticed birds that were resting in and around the roof and ceiling in the temple all got out of there quick smart.  After they performed in the temple they did another performance which included dancing outside in the car park.
Our next stop was a ancient temple that is right in the centre of Sri Lanka.
Then on to Dambulla to see Buddha again. The Tassie couple went in to see the cave here and came back exhausted. we pushed on towards Sigiriya and then stopped at a road side eatery that was shocked to have some western people wanting lunch.
they produced three omelets each from a single egg, they were not cooked and a little raw, both us males ate ours, Teresa and the other lady new better.
As Sigiriya is on the world heritage list the cost for us was USD 30 each to enter.
The Tassie couple we going to climb it the next day so Teresa and I set off in the heat of the day 1250 steps and a lot of climbing we reached the top. Both of us lost a couple of Kilos doing it.   It took us two and a half hours to get to the top and half a hour to climb back down.  We had to keep stopping to get our breath, but, people who were a quarter our age were also getting out of breath and resting with us.    On top the view was fantastic. Two dogs were up there and Teresa gave them a cracker biscuit each, but, they just kept on wanting more. She was telling them to sit for each biscuit, but, the dogs did not understand English.  While we were resting at he top with these dogs we also had about 15 students from a institute of English with us, they were wanting to practice English on us and they all thought is was great when I said those dogs can't understand English to Teresa. This climb  was one thing we wanted to do a it is dubbed the eighth wonder of the world.
