Day 3 Kandy
With a total of four nights in Kandy, on the third day we headed off to visit the markets, Outside our hotel we had flagged down or I should say he spotted us another tuk tuk driver.
We agreed on a price to take us to the markets and off we went then suddenly he pulled off the road and told us the markets were closed for the holiday, after more discussions we ended on agreeing on yet another price for him to take us up a hill over looking Kandy that has 38 meter high Buddha on it, we also went on his recommendation to see the Commonwealth War Cemetry situated on the outskirts of Kandy. The Cemetery was very well kept and hundredss of graves were there with service personnel from all over the world, resting in peace. I could not see any head stones of Australians, but, their was a lot from Canada and England. The head Gardener produced a visitors book for me to sign and while doing so I mentioned to our driver that I had done 20 years service in the RAAF and he in turn told me he had done ten years service in the Sri Lankan Army. I gave a donation to the head gardener who was very happy that I recognised his work.
The next day we used the same driver on yet another trip and over heard him telling a official at a temple that I had done the 20 years in the Australian airforce even though he was speaking in his own language it was clear what he was telling him.
